Donations from Seena Magowitz Celebrity Golf Classic now top $750,000. Arizona businessman Roger Magowitz today presented $400,000 for pancreatic cancer research to the TGen Translational Genomics Research Institute. Proceeds from December’s 7th annual Seena Magowitz Celebrity Golf Classic bring to $750,000 the total amount Roger Magowitz has contributed to TGen in memory of his mother, Seena Magowitz who died of pancreatic cancer in 2001. Metformin Reduces Risk of Diabetic Patients Developing Pancreatic Cancer

Taking the most commonly-prescribed anti-diabetic drug, metformin, reduces an individual's risk of developing pancreatic cancer by 62 percent, according to research from The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, published in the August 1, 2009 issue of Gastroenterology.

Study Shows Vitamin D May Reduce
Pancreatic Cancer Risk Nearly By Half

Consumption of Vitamin D tablets was found to cut the risk of pancreatic cancer nearly in half according to a study led by researchers a Northwestern University and Harvard University. The findings point to Vitamin D’s potential to prevent the disease, and is one of the first known studies to use a large-scale epidemiological survey to examine the relationship between the nutrient and cancer of the pancreas. The study, led by Halcyon Skinner, Ph.D., of Northwestern, appears in the September issue of Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers & Prevention.
